Virtual Volunteer Description and Expectations

HEART could not exist without our amazing volunteers!  Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.  We expect our volunteers to be engaged, responsible, communicative, understanding, patient and respectful.  Volunteers cannot be afraid to jump in and participate wherever needed.  Be creative even if you don’t think you can.  We are role models for the HEARTists and want to exemplify how art, creativity and expression is fun!

HEART operates through Zoom on Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am-5pm.  Our schedule runs in hour-long activities.  The following are some of our regular activities:

Daily Draw:

A drawing prompt is announced and each person creates a drawing based on this prompt.  Volunteers are invited to participate in drawing their own as well.  We share our drawings about 20 minutes before the end of the activity and comment on others’ drawings as they share.

Theatre/Music/Dance:

During this hour, we work on a variety of different physical expressions.  Some examples are working on facial reactions and body language, learning a new song or dance, creating a sketch, theatre games, or practicing Open Mic performances.  Volunteers are invited to participate and encourage HEARTists to stay focused and involved.

Trailblazers:

We use this hour for community engagement - to experience new art, creative spaces and artists.  Volunteers can get involved by leading us through their own creative space, sharing their artwork or leading us through a virtual gallery, etc.  We also use this time to make thank you cards for the many different creatives that have shared their time and talents with us.

Visual Arts:

We typically have an art theme each week and the art project is based on that theme.  Some of the projects we have created are paper mosaics, Master Artist renditions, exploring new mediums and techniques (such as oil pastels or Pointillism), and nature mandalas.  Volunteers can participate by creating along with us or leading a project.

Writing Workshop:

Writing Workshop includes a variety of writing activities.  Some of these include:  poetry, short stories, Mad Libs, creating memes, biographies.  Volunteers can get involved by participating in writing and sharing their own pieces or offering suggestions during group writing activities.  Volunteers can also lead a writing workshop with their own activity.

Exercise/Yoga

Volunteers can lead a class or participate alongside us.

If you have other ideas, don’t hesitate to reach out!  We are open to any arts-related activity and pretty flexible in our schedule.  Contact rae@heartsc.org with any questions.

HEART is a happy and loving family of artists; a place to grow and learn together.  We love to have a good time and create new relationships through our art.  Spend some time with us and see how you can help!
