Taking Up Space at The Gibbes Museum
Be noticed. Be heard. Dream bigger.
Fill a room with color, emotion, and possibility.
This exhibition brings together a remarkable collection of works that celebrate presence in all its forms, from the physical to the emotional, the personal to the universal. Each piece is a declaration of visibility, confidence, and creative power.
Artists whose perspectives have too often been overlooked have always been part of the story of art. Their work, vision, and contributions belong within our cultural landscape, whether history has acknowledged them or not. TAKING UP SPACE is both a celebration and a reminder: these artists are not asking to be included. They have always belonged.
TAKING UP SPACE invites us to consider who gets seen, whose stories are told, and what becomes possible when artists are recognized on the strength of their vision, voice, and artistry.
Presented by HEART, a contemporary arts studio for artists with developmental disabilities.
